Time to Dye with Fungi

Time to Dye with Fungi

You have probably heard of mushrooms for culinary dishes, but have you ever considered them for other purposes? Outside of eating them, mushrooms can be used to create a unique dye palette as well. Every color of the rainbow can be achieved through various mushrooms and dye techniques, and I am here to share some of this with you!

Bio

My name is Marion Richards and I am originally from southern Oregon, and currently reside just outside of Seattle. I attended the University of Washington and have a bachelors in Environmental Studies, as well as a degree and license as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. I'm a member of the Snohomish County Mycological Society, past Vice President of the Puget Sound Mycological Society, and have been the Arts & Crafts Chair and Show Committee Chair of PSMS for 3 years now.

I have been dyeing with different natural dyes for the past 5 years. Growing a dye plant garden and foraging dye mushrooms are a continual passion of mine. I decided to take the deep dive and try a mushroom dyeing class through one of my local mushroom clubs. I have since taught dye classes through PSMS, offered talks and demos through my rug hooking guild, classes at a local art council and art schools, and have given demonstrations with the Mountaineers and at our annual PSMS Wild Mushroom Show. The rest is history, but dreaming of colors and using natural pigments for various fiber art projects has now taken the center focus of my path and I hope to share that passion with others!
